Formal Wear vs Cosplay - a Prom Etiquette Conversation

We are excited about the theme this year, and based on the feedback we are getting, we know you are too!

This is Captain America.
He is not dressed appropriately for prom.

We have had a few questions about coming in costume. We love that you are enthusiastic about the theme, and while we love your creativity, we want to emphasize that prom is not a cosplay.  It is a formal event, and your attire must be formal and within the dress code. Superhero uniforms and costumes are not formal attire. However, if you choose to embellish your attire in a way that does not distract from the formal nature of prom, we will not object. If you come dressed as Wonder Woman or Captain America, expect to be asked to change your outfit before you are permitted into prom! Also, please refrain from face paint and/or masks.

This is the new Wonder Woman Barbie Doll.
She is not dressed appropriately for prom.
Those of you who have been around for a while know that we are serious about our dress code.  We strive to provide an amazing, memorable night in a formal, wholesome environment.  We encourage you to read the dress code thoroughly prior to acquiring your prom attire. There are some changes this year, and some things are staying the same. Some highlights are listed below.

Chris Hemsworth demonstrates a coordinating formal tux
(as opposed to matching colors of tux jacket and slacks).
His attire is acceptable for prom.
Gentlemen:
•    You may now wear coordinating jacket and pants. They no longer must be an exact fabric match, but they must coordinate. An example would be a dark suit jacket with a tasteful pattern and a pair of coordinating trousers.
•    You need to make sure you are still wearing formal wear, as opposed to khakis and a sport coat.
•    Neckwear is required for young men.

Ladies
Selena Gomez models a formal gown.
Her attire is acceptable for prom.

•    Please be attentive to the neckline and length of your dress.  If you are in doubt, go ahead and make those alterations prior to your big night.
•    Two piece dresses can only be worn if your midriff does not show when your arms are raised above your head.
•    If you arrive at prom and your neckline is too low, your length/slit is too high, your dress is see-through, or it has cut outs in inappropriate places, you will be offered alterations by our amazing team of seamstresses. We certainly want everyone to enjoy this amazing night, but you may also choose to leave prom. The choice is ultimately yours.

Thank you so much for abiding by our code of conduct and dress code!  We appreciate you all so much and look forward to a night of memories and fun for everyone!
